Understanding the recent adjustments to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP) across Britain is now easier with our interactive map. Stay informed about how these changes impact your benefits and assessments.
The DWP has initiated several reforms affecting assessments for Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), and other vital benefits. These changes are part of a broader strategy to streamline services and enhance efficiency.
Specifically, DWP has announced that from now until 2029, health assessments in certain regions will be handled by a single provider, paving the way for a unified national assessment service in the future.
For PIP recipients, a health assessment is required to determine the benefit amount based on the impact of their disability on daily activities and mobility.
Similarly, those claiming Universal Credit and ESA must undergo a work capability assessment to establish their ability to work despite illness. These procedures are under significant overhaul, with new contracts centralizing assessment responsibilities within a region to one company.
This change marks the first phase towards a nationwide Health Assessment Service expected to roll out over the next five years. Claimants will receive instructions via letters and should follow the guidelines provided. If you misplace your letter or need to confirm your assessment provider, our interactive map can assist you using your postcode.

In specific regions, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) directly handles health assessments. For those in postcodes E5, N2, N3, N4, and N6, DWP manages PIP health assessments and work capability assessments for Universal Credit/ESA. For Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit assessments, Ingeus is the provider.
In particular B postcodes (B14, B17, B19, and B78) for PIP assessments, the DWP is in charge. For Universal Credit/ESA work capability assessments or Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit assessments in these B postcodes, Capita is responsible.
If your assessment is managed by DWP and you need assistance, you can contact the Health Assessment Service at 0800 015 2561.
