Building Strong White Hat Backlinks via Outreach

SEO is dead.

Link building is dead.

How many times have you heard that? Since Google’s Penguin and Panda updates rolled out a few years back and demolished most of the sites engaged in SEO at the time, there have been regular claims about the death of SEO.

But is SEO really dead? Does link building not work anymore?

No… Not at all. SEO is stronger than ever for those who properly use white hat SEO, and link building remains and will continue to be the single biggest ranking factor. So, SEO isn’t dead. The link-building methods people used to “game the system” are indeed obsolete.

The strategies being discussed all over SEO forums… are dead.

Flooding your site with article directory links, wiki page links, web 2.0 links, and comment links…

Purchasing link packages that promise thousands of links by the next week…

Launching websites with five pages full of fluff, crammed with affiliate links…

If you’re new to SEO, it might surprise you to hear that these tactics worked in the past.

One could throw up a 5-page site, order a few thousand software-generated spam links, and be ranking on the first page within a couple of weeks.

That kind of SEO is definitely dead.

SEO doesn’t work like that anymore. It’s not easy to game the system now, and consequently, Google’s search engine results have improved significantly.

However, this does not mean that outreach or HARO link building is dead. In fact, they’re very much alive and effective.

White Hat SEO: A New Dawn for Internet Marketers and Site Builders

You might think that the changes in SEO practices are a bad thing.

But in reality, it’s a better time than ever before to get into SEO – White Hat SEO.

Search engines are rewarding quality websites and filtering out those looking for quick wins.

My main income source comes from building and growing websites, with organic search traffic from Google as my primary traffic source.

That means, yes, I do SEO. And I like to think I’m quite good at it.

Over the past few years, I’ve grown two sites to over 100,000 readers per month, and another past the 1 million visitors per month mark using outreach link building services from Digital Web Solutions. Not to mention, solid on-page SEO played a significant role as well.

If there’s one thing I can say for sure, it’s that SEO is now a more sustainable source of traffic than ever before.

In the past, people were scared of Google. They feared being wiped out, like many were during the Panda and Penguin updates.

This fear led to spammy practices because such tactics used to work. Google’s search results were full of low-quality sites.

Today’s search results, however, have significantly improved as a result of Google’s persistent algorithm updates.

But what if you could be on the positive side of Google’s updates? By building quality links and signals, you can be among the sites that Google rewards.

Link Building the Right Way

Today’s SEO landscape has evolved for the better.

High authority sites now carry more weight than ever before in search engines.

In the past, to rank a page, you typically had to build links directly to that page. Nowadays, the authority and trust of a domain play a massive role in search rankings.

For my own sites, once I’ve built up enough link authority, new pages I publish often jump straight to page 1 or 2, and then gradually climb to the top 5 positions within about a week (keyword difficulty depending).

That’s the power that authority sites hold in search engines today. This trend is only set to continue in the future.

So, what do we need to do? Create a high-authority site!

And the main way to achieve this is by building POWERFUL backlinks using white hat SEO.

If you picked up this guide, you’re already miles ahead of many other SEOs. Not many people know how to build links properly. A lot of individuals call themselves SEO experts but lack the skills to rank a site for competitive keywords and increase traffic substantively.

Link building remains the biggest ranking factor. Knowing how to link build effectively gives you an incredibly valuable skill set that’s hard to find in the industry.

Link building is what elevates web pages in rankings and drives traffic.

Additionally, it can be the difference between a blog that earns a few dollars per day and one that generates hundreds daily.

Let’s get started!

How To Build Links That Drive Traffic & Increase Rankings

Build Links That Drive Traffic and Increase Rankings

In the SEO community, certain people are known as great link builders.

But have you ever wondered… “What makes a great link builder? What are they doing differently? What kinds of links are they building, and how are they doing it?”

Here’s a little secret: Link builders are hustlers. They get things done.

Link building is more about hustle than about some “secret tactic” that only they know about.

Of course, you need to know the strategy, but it takes work to acquire links that significantly affect a site’s rankings. It’s not about learning some “secret tactic”.

Mastering the strategies you are about to learn is incredibly valuable for yourself and anyone who needs assistance with building traffic and authority online.

It’s difficult to find competent link builders. If you’ve ever tried to hire one, you know exactly what I mean.

How Great Link Builders Create Powerful Links

Link building through white hat SEO is all about networking.

In SEO, networking means communication.

The only way to obtain links on most high-authority pages is through communication with the webmaster who owns it.

Essentially, you need to ask for it.

There’s a very specific way that link builders approach this, and it’s called outreach.

The Power of Outreach

In the past few years, I’ve built links to my sites on huge websites, including multiple EDU sites.

I don’t mean the spammy EDU links you could buy on Fiverr. I mean links on their official faculty’s resource page.

These links are… POWERFUL. Extremely powerful.

Just a handful of links can transform your site’s entire traffic volume. Because Google assigns so much weight to authority, building a white hat backlink that passes substantial authority to your site will drastically increase your rankings for pages across your entire domain.

Here’s an example of what outreach links can do for your traffic:

This is a site I own but don’t actively work on.

As an experiment, I built just a handful of links using outreach, and it increased my overall traffic by 46%.

Search traffic increase after using outreach link building

Rankings for my major keywords weren’t affected, but long-tail traffic increased drastically.

All because of a few links built.

How did I build these links?

It was all through outreach – using the methods you’re about to learn.

Essentially, I asked for them. It’s that simple.

Outreach is the most powerful link-building strategy. And there’s no denying that.

You can build an unlimited number of links.

You don’t need to “manage” the sites they’re on, like PBN links.

You don’t need to pay for them. They’re free.

And you don’t need to hide anything from Google. You’re doing nothing shady. In fact, these are the links you want Google to know about because you’ll be heavily rewarded.

How to Execute Effective Outreach for Backlinks

In its simplest form, outreach might sound simple: email the webmaster asking for a link.

But there’s a wrong way and a right way of doing it.

Effective outreach is about four times more productive than ineffective outreach. Meaning, for the same task, build four more links for every one link you build the wrong way.

Let’s learn how to do it the right way first, and then I’ll cover the wrong way and what to avoid.

Let’s say that you’re in the golfing niche.

You have a blog about golf tips and have just written an article about how to improve your putting game.

Now, you need to build links to it so you can start ranking for your keywords. There are many different ways you can do outreach.

In this tutorial, I’ll cover one of my favorites. I use this strategy to build links for all of my sites because it’s easy and works extremely well.

Let’s dive into step 1. I’ll explain this as simply as possible.

STEP 1: Locate Your Competitors

The first step is to locate your competitors.

I don’t mean every website that competes in your niche. I mean pages already ranking for your keyword.

Who’s currently ranking on the first page?

A simple Google search will suffice. Just go to Google and enter your keyword.

In our example, it’s “how to improve your putting game.”

Enter Google keyword

Which gives us the following results…

Google search results for keyword

We’ll focus on the first page for now. Usually, I may go up to page 5.

Let’s move on to the next step.

STEP 2: Find Their Backlinks

The next step is to analyze the backlink profile of each site.

What we want to figure out is the pages linking to their page that’s ranking.

To do this, we can use any backlink checker:

I prefer Open Site Explorer, but any reliable tool will get the job done.

TIP: If you don’t have a paid account, stick to Open Site Explorer, as it gives the most results for free accounts.

Let’s start with the #1 ranking page in the search results, which is this page from golf.com.

Open Site Explorer shows us that this page has links from three pages.
