Discovering My Entrepreneurial Spirit
My online entrepreneurial journey began back in 2008.
Throughout this time, I’ve explored various ways to generate income online.
Some of my ventures included selling used items on eBay, leveraging Amazon FBA for retail reselling, blogging, creating and selling online courses, crafting low-content books, and designing print-on-demand t-shirts.
While these businesses were successful, they also came with significant anxiety and burnout. By 2023, I decided to step back from my multi-six-figure online course business, allowing myself a year off to assess my future endeavors. Fortunately, due to our financial independence, this break was feasible.
During this period, my husband was diagnosed with leukemia. Thankfully, I could devote my full attention to his treatment without the stress of managing a business. Now cancer-free, we are returning to normalcy, and I feel invigorated and ready to explore new side hustles.
Starting My Amazon Influencer Journey
In my extensive experience with Amazon, I had heard about making money by reviewing products as an Amazon Influencer. I decided to give it a try and set up an account, just days before my husband’s leukemia diagnosis.
After his recovery, I revisited my influencer account and found that my initial three videos had earned nearly $200 passively. Realizing the potential, I started creating more videos. Initially, I uploaded 25 videos, making $75 per month. By June, with around 45 videos, I saw my first $100 day, proving its viability as a side hustle. I then began documenting my process to share with my email subscribers.
Understanding the Amazon Influencer Program
For those unfamiliar, the Amazon Influencer Program allows for influencer marketing directly on Amazon. Unlike traditional influencers, who must drive their audience to external sites, Amazon Influencers create product videos that appear directly on Amazon’s product pages.
Potential customers can watch these videos for detailed product insights. If a purchase follows, Amazon pays the influencer a commission (between 1-5% based on the product category).
Tools and Equipment for Amazon Influencers
One attractive aspect of the Amazon Influencer role is the minimal initial investment.
Essential tools include:
- A smartphone or camera for recording reviews
- A computer for account setup and video uploads, though uploads can also be done via smartphone
- Products to review, which can be sourced from your own home
Additional tools, such as a tripod, lighting equipment, and a microphone, can enhance video quality but are not essential for starting out. These extras typically cost under $100.
Earning Potential as an Amazon Influencer
Your earnings as an Amazon Influencer depend on the effort invested.
With 100-200 high-quality videos, expect to make around $500 monthly. Some influencers, with over 1,000 videos, earn over $5,000 each month. My first $100 day came with fewer than 50 videos.
The Ideal Personality for This Business
Many believe an outgoing personality is crucial for the Amazon Influencer Program. However, that’s not the case. The program suits both introverts and extroverts. Faceless videos allow introverts to thrive without showing their faces, while extroverts can showcase their on-camera charisma.
