As the new year draws near, it’s a great moment to reflect on the potential treasures hidden within your family heirlooms. Perhaps your attic holds valuable coins waiting to bring you excitement and profit in 2025. Coins, particularly those cherished by collectors, can significantly boost your financial prospects in the upcoming year.
Several coins are poised to capture the attention of coin enthusiasts in 2025. Currency collectors should pay special attention to certain coins that may yield substantial value. For insights, GOBankingRates consulted Dr. Mike Fuljenz, the president of Universal Coin and Bullion, and explored CoinWeek.
Moreover, explore the rare coins coveted by collectors that hold high value today.
Spotlight on American Silver Eagles
Silver enthusiasts should closely watch the American Silver Eagles, struck between 1986 and 2024. Made of 99.9% fine silver and weighing an ounce, these coins have consistently grown in value. Fuljenz notes the upward trend: silver prices have risen over 30% this year alone. As one of the most sought-after silver coins globally, American Silver Eagles are set for potential further growth.
According to Fuljenz, “Given the current silver spot price of $32.00, reputable dealers are offering uncirculated gem coins at about $36-$37.”
American Eagle Gold Coins: A Solid Choice
In addition to silver, consider investing in American Eagle gold coins. Fuljenz highlights these as promising coins for the new year, offering in-depth advice on what qualities to seek.
“A $5 gold American Eagle, containing 1/10 of an ounce of fine gold, should maintain its value increase, with gold rising 30% in 2024 and a remarkable 800% since 2000,” he explains. Moreover, macroeconomic factors such as political uncertainty and global disruptions tend to support gold prices, making these coins an attractive investment. Fuljenz adds, “Considering a gold spot price of $2,678, these pieces sell for about $295-$305 from trustworthy dealers.”
Treasure in Change: San Francisco Mint Washington Quarters
CoinWeek draws attention to these special Washington Quarters minted at the San Francisco Mint from 2012 to present. Primarily made for collectors and not circulation, they occasionally appear in change. Finding them could bring delightful surprises as these coins, in mint condition, have sold on platforms like eBay for $3 to $5 each.
