In a recent poll, a significant number of Amazon workers are considering job hunting due to the company’s new five-day in-office policy. A survey of 2,585 employees conducted by Blind revealed that many Amazon employees are feeling “dissatisfied” with the latest shift away from remote work.
Since May, Amazon had allowed employees to work remotely up to twice per week, with badge swipes used to track office attendance. However, Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, announced in a memo on September 16 that starting in early 2025, most workers would need to be in the office five days a week. “Collaboration, brainstorming, and invention are simpler and more effective in person,” he stated.
The survey, conducted by Blind from September 17 to 19, found widespread dissatisfaction with the new policy. According to Blind, 73% of participants are reconsidering their employment at Amazon because of the looming changes.

In a recent blog post by Blind, several notable comments from Amazon employees highlighted the widespread discontent and frustration. One employee expressed their loss of morale, stating, “My morale for this job is gone, gonna totally check out …”
Amazon Employees Considering Job Hunting
Numerous Amazon employees are looking for new job opportunities because they were hired as remote workers during the pandemic and now feel that switching to a five-day in-office policy is unfair. Discussions on platforms like Reddit further reveal a collective sense of injustice and potential calls for mass resignations. Blind reported that 80% of workers know someone who is contemplating job hunting due to this policy. Moreover, 32% mentioned knowing individuals who have already left the company in response.
Blind also highlighted that some candidates are< a href="https://www.teamblind.com/post/Candidates-dropping-out-of-Amazon-recruitment-pipeline-in-droves-Xeb1Meaq?utm_source=share&utm_medium=embed&from=embed_link"> dropping out of job interviews at Amazon because of the company’s refusal to support remote work. Additionally, employees on forums like Reddit fear that these changes are part of a strategy to reduce headcount, which aligns with a survey by BambooHR where some companies enforced return-to-office (RTO) policies to induce resignations.
Amazon Workers Feel “Dejected”
A discussion on Reddit captured the sentiment of frustration and limited options among Amazon employees. Reddit user OhNolBoffedIt remarked, “My team is already decentralized, but sure, making me drive into an office none of my coworkers sit in 5 days a week is great.” Additionally, another worker expressed in Blind’s blog feeling “dejected about this 5-day RTO,” highlighting the impact such policies can have on personal life decisions.
Amazon employs 1.5 million full and part-time workers, according to recent regulatory filings. Besides the RTO policy, Amazon is also facing pressure from its workforce for higher wages. Jassy’s memo emphasized the advantages of being together in the office, mentioning that the last 15 months have strengthened the company’s conviction about the benefits of in-person work. However, several studies, including those involving major companies like Apple and Microsoft, indicate that RTO mandates may harm productivity, employee retention, and morale.
