Why These £5 Notes Could Be Worth £50,000

In total, Graham Short produced six of these Harry Kane-engraved £5 notes. Notably, one was given to Harry Kane himself, and another to the Football Association (FA). The remaining four, however, are still in circulation and remain undiscovered, presenting an exciting opportunity for anyone to find one in their possession.

Coin Collector UK, a specialist in rare currency, has urged the public to stay vigilant and examine their money closely. In a TikTok video, he emphasized the rarity and potential value of these notes, noting how painstakingly Graham Short etched Kane’s portrait using a needle, a process that took six days per note.

Where to Look for These Rare £5 Notes

The four undiscovered notes were distributed across different parts of the UK. Specifically, they were spent in Edinburgh, Merthyr Tydfil, Meriden, and Northern Ireland. Each note carries a unique serial number:

Remarkably, these serial numbers are not in a consecutive sequence, adding another layer of uniqueness to these notes.

The Coin Collector UK added that each of these rare £5 notes is insured up to £50,000. They are expected to fetch at least this amount, if not more, at auction. Despite this alluring potential, none of these special notes have surfaced or been claimed at auction to date. This fact only heightens the anticipation and hope that someone might discover one among their everyday cash.

Interestingly, in 2017 it was reported that only one of Graham Short’s Jane Austen-engraved £5 notes is still unaccounted for, suggesting these artistic creations often remain hidden treasures.
